Photo Shoots and Florals

I love flowers!  And it is so much fun to go to a wholesale florist/flower market and “play” in the coolers.  Most of the time I buy WAY too much but when I am putting together florals for a photo shoot, I like to have more than enough in case I change my mind about the scale or shape or colors.

My car usually looks like this on shoot day….

Whenever I do florals for a photo shoot I try to use colors/styles of flowers & containers that work cohesively in the room.

For a jet I designed with a contemporary interior, I chose all white with some greenery to enhance the wood and leather and not distract from the interior:

Other florals I did for a reception on the jet:

For a recent interior shoot, I mixed it up a bit.

Amy Martineau Vermillion Interior Design- Charlotte NC Dustin Peck, my photographer (who puts up with so much from me) sighting a shot for a simple table in the breakfast room.

Amy Martineau Vermillion Interior Design- Charlotte NC I wanted a very simple look so I chose heather and put it in a copper vase that I had from an ASID Designer House kitchen I designed.  The table is a custom design in Curly Maple from Wright Table.

More dahlias…

Floral designers have told me they have favorites based on viability and how the flowers show up in photographs…so I guess I love dahlias for those reasons too.  Of course what is in season also has an impact on choice.  Getting flowers specially ordered is very expensive…(but can be done!)

My top favorites for photo shoots:

Tulips (especially fringed Parrot or exotic French)

Dahlias (any color)

Thai Leaf (for wrapping clear vases)

Hydrangea (they last forever and the detail of the petals provides depth)

White roses (elegant)

Bells of Ireland

Weird greenery, ferns, anything that creates movement.

Heather

White lilies

Spider Mums

Enjoy,

  2. Love your take on flowers…..and they really do make a setting so much prettier for their “close up”. French tulips, orchids, hydrangeas and peonies are my faves and I love tall branches and cherry blossoms when in season for a dramatic effect. Beautiful examples of how beautifully flowers enhance interiors above…well done Amy!!
