Who the heck is Bill Shankly you say? Bill was a famous Scottish footballer and manager way back when.
What the heck does this have to do with interior design? Not much really, but I like the quote and it rings true with everything in life. You know….”Go Big or Go Home.” ”No risk, No reward.” And all that. Personally I believe that to be true.
But onto what’cha came here for.
Lately I have been seeing A LOT of awesome ceilings. Many moons ago, ceilings were considered an important part of the decoration of a room.
This ceiling is in Drayton Hall in Charleston, SC and if you ever get the chance…put this place on your to do list.
Two hundred and sixty five years later we are seeing decorative ceilings again.
Unfortunately we aren’t seeing the amazing plaster work of the past centuries. It was a “passed down through generation” type skill and sadly it seems to have gone out of fashion to be a decorative plasterer.
However, through the use of applied moulding, barrel vaults, lacquers, leafing and painted designs, ceilings are getting interesting attention again.

Fabulous examples! I’ve been wanting to use grasscloth on a ceiling, may have to give it a try in my own home. P.S. loving the new look to your site! xo
