Cabuchon sapphires, basket woven gold and diamond latticed rubies were all used by Fulco Di Verdura, legendary jewelry designer in his amazing pieces.
Born into Sicilian aristocracy, Fulco became well known after World War I when American cafe society began flocking to Palermo and Venice. Befriended by the Cole Porters and eventually introduced and worn by Coco Chanel, Fulco was the jeweler to the stylish ones. Design icons like Diana Vreeland, Carolina Herrera, Greta Garbo and Babe Paley (who was his design muse in the 1950′s) loved and were photographed in their Verdura pieces.
Although Fulco passed away in 1978, his legend lives on with jewelry still being produced from the company, Verdura. His vintage pieces continue to rise in value and are highly sought after by jewelry collectors as there aren’t many available.
